DevThrottle on mobile

Mobile is your fleet in your pocket. Your agents keep working after you stand up - the phone's job is to make sure you are never the bottleneck just because you walked away. It shows you which sessions are waiting, and you answer them from wherever you are.

What it does

  • It tells you quietly. Once you have added the app to your phone's home screen and tapped Enable notifications, the app icon carries a dot while a session needs you, and the dot clears when nothing does. The Gateway checks your fleet every eight seconds and sends the dot when it changes - so it is a glance at your home screen, not a buzz in your pocket. The one thing allowed to make a sound is a snooze that has just run out. Setting it up is the last step of pairing your phone.
  • Answer from anywhere. On a walk, in line, on the train. Reply by voice or thumb and the agent keeps going; no laptop required. Voice replies use the same dictation as the desktop, including your custom dictionary.
  • Read what happened. Chat shows the session's conversation - what you asked, what the agent did, what it answered - and you reply in the same place. Decisions stop waiting for your desk.
  • Ask about the whole fleet. The Assistant, in the phone's menu, is a conversation with your fleet rather than with one session - how many sessions are open, which are stuck, what runs tonight - and it can act on them for you. It is the same screen the Cockpit has.
  • Send screenshots. A photo or screenshot you attach from the phone is saved into the screenshots folder on the machine that session runs on, and its path is dropped into the message box at your cursor. You add a sentence and send, so "make it look like this" works from the couch.

Your phone connects to your Gateway

The mobile app is served by the Gateway - by default DevThrottle's hosted Gateway, or one you run yourself. When you answer an agent from the phone, the Gateway relays your answer to the session, which runs in a Director on the machine you chose. The phone itself holds only a per-device key - not your account - so a lost phone is one revoked device, not a compromised account. The details are on the pairing page.

The Gateway also decides what each session looks like. It folds every session's raw activity into one colour and one short label - the dot and the line of words on each roster row - and stamps them onto the row it sends. The phone paints exactly what it is given and never invents a colour of its own, which is why a session reads the same on the phone, in the Cockpit and on the desktop.

The phone is a view. Putting it in your pocket, losing signal, or letting the battery die never stops an agent - sessions run in Directors on your machines. See keeping agents running.
